Contract to go live in 12 months : iryo’s rapid entry into Spanish high-speed rail
Iryo is the brand of Intermodalidad de Levante S.A. (ILSA), a Spanish private high-speed rail operator that entered into the market as a new entrant and launched in November of 2022. After signing the contract, the go live with S3 Passenger took only 12 months.
The operator is jointly owned by a consortium of Air Nostrum, Trenitalia, and Globalvia. The goal of iryo is to transform Spanish rail travel with a focus on sustainability, comfort, and innovation. Their commitment is delivering high-frequency, eco-friendly journeys across key cities like Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, and Seville.
Their state-of-the-art, silent, and ecological trains ensure a seamless travel experience for both business and leisure travellers. As leaders in multimodal mobility, iryo integrates various transport modes into a single, smooth journey—all bookable through their digital platforms.
Leading the way forward
The very first services from iryo ran in November of 2022 and these ran on the Madrid–Barcelona high-speed rail line. They later added services through 2023 and covered Madrid–Córdoba–Sevilla/Málaga and Madrid–Albacete–Alicante.

Working on a short deadline
It was important for iryo to open their sales in September of 2022. This was an important moment and everything had to be ready to go at that time. Sqills was proud to play a pivotal role in achieving this important milestone, contributing its expertise and solutions to ensure the project stayed on track and met its goals. The successful opening was possible due to the collaboration between all parties involved.
Given that iryo started from scratch, this added another challenge to the implementation of S3 Passenger. As a new operator, iryo would have to explore all the various options that S3 Passenger offers. The strong collaboration between iryo and Sqills is what made the difference in the project, meaning that iryo never felt as though they would have to handle any arising issues themselves.
