National Spanish operator Renfe Viajeros selects S3 Passenger as their next-generation ticket sales and reservation system

The national passenger railway company of Spain, Renfe, has selected Sqills’ S3 Passenger to modernise its sales, inventory, loyalty, and pricing capabilities as part of its Renfe2028 digital transformation strategy.

As a result, S3 Passenger will support mission-critical commercial processes, including ticket sales, inventory control, customer engagement, and pricing.  Renfe joins a growing list of operators in Europe and North America who selected S3 Passenger to support their core commercial operations.

Renfe is the national passenger railway company of Spain. Founded in 1941, and restructured into Renfe Viajeros following liberalisation, it is now one of the largest passenger rail operators in Europe. Focused on innovation, sustainability, and expansion, Renfe is leveraging modern digital platforms like S3 Passenger to drive its ambition to lead the future of European rail.

Renfe operates more than 5.000 trains across 12,000 km of railways in Spain daily, and it transports more than 500 million passengers a year. Renfe’s goal is to maximise the benefits of the sustainability that passenger rail transport brings while committing to invest in technological and digital transformation.

Transforming the passenger experience and Renfe’s business agility

With the switch to S3 Passenger, Renfe benefits from improved agility and gains access to a wide range of additional features. Key features include dynamic pricing and advanced yield management powered by configurable business rules, powerful disruption management tools, a multi-channel landscape authorising all connected channels and partners to name, and seamless offer bundling and fare flexibility, including support for subscriptions and ancillaries to name but a few.

The implementation will enable future connectivity via OSDM (Open Sales and Distribution Model), natively supported by S3 Passenger. This enables Renfe to easily build and maintain partnerships with other European rail operators that support the OSDM standard. This helps to boost connectivity, foster collaboration, and improve interoperability.

With S3 Passenger, Renfe can significantly accelerate its time-to-market for introducing new offers, fare adjustments, and promotional pricing. Renfe will be able to quickly respond to market and demand  changes, giving the operator a competitive edge in an increasingly competitive environment.

A fully integrated passenger rewards experience within S3 Passenger

Renfe will be the first operator to launch S3 Loyalty, a native loyalty module embedded directly into S3 Passenger. Once fully integrated with Renfe’s existing loyalty platform, S3 Loyalty enables customers to earn and redeem points throughout their booking journey, making  discounts on future trips just a few clicks away. It’s a smooth, seamless experience that ties customer engagement directly to travel decisions.

A smooth and scalable transition to S3 Passenger

Sqills and Renfe have agreed on a phased implementation approach designed to de-risk the project and accelerate time-to-market. By aligning its business processes with S3 Passenger standards, Renfe is paving the way for a smoother implementation. This strategy enables core modules to go live sooner, while providing flexibility for incremental improvements and broader business adoption over time.

This ensures that the transition to S3 Passenger is as smooth as possible and Renfe optimally benefits from the new features that it will  have available when completing the transition. With S3 Passenger, Renfe benefits from an industry-proven solution that is both resilient and highly scalable, yet flexible enough to adapt to changing customer needs and expectations.

We are excited and proud to work with Renfe. With S3 Passenger and the willingness to adapt to our product’s standards, Renfe will benefit from a resilient and scalable platform that enables flexibility to adapt to changing customer needs and expectations.
