Amtrak selects S3 Passenger as its next-generation sales and distribution platform

The National Railroad Passenger Corporation (Amtrak), one of the largest operators of contract commuter services in North America, has chosen Sqills’ S3 Passenger to replace their 40-year-old Arrow reservation system. S3 Passenger, known as the industry-leading dynamic pricing, inventory management, and reservation system, is set to power Amtrak’s next phase of growth.
Providing a better customer solution
Amtrak sought a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software solution to streamline inventory management, order processing, and pricing optimisation. This marks a key milestone in the evolution of their business operations.
To stay ahead of constantly changing market demands, Amtrak needs a strong digital foundation that supports and enables business agility. With the transition to S3 Passenger, Amtrak will see significant gains in operational efficiency while delivering an enhanced passenger experience—ensuring the flexibility needed to meet evolving traveller expectations.
The implementation of Sqills’ cloud-based, highly scalable solution will modernise Amtrak's entire sales and distribution system. This implementation will provide an agile and future-proof platform designed to support Amtrak’s long-term growth ambitions.
We’re incredibly proud to partner with an operator as iconic and influential as Amtrak. Their trust in S3 Passenger underscores our commitment to delivering an innovative, scalable solution, one that will help modernise rail travel for millions of passengers across North America.
More about Amtrak
Amtrak operates a nationwide rail network that serves more than 500 destinations across 46 of the 48 contiguous U.S. states and three Canadian provinces. Amtrak’s network spans across more than 34,000 km of track and served almost 23 million passengers in the 2022 fiscal year.
Amtrak offers a range of services across its network to cater to different travel needs. In the Northeast Corridor, the Northeast Regional provides coach and business class options, with frequent stops to serve smaller markets along the route.
Across the U.S., Amtrak partners with states to run State Supported Service lines, typically offering coach and business class with variable consist sizes. Some of these services allow unreserved travel. Amtrak’s Long Distance services, which may overlap with Northeast and State routes, offer coach, dining, café, and sleeper cars. Additionally, the Auto Train provides nonstop service from Virginia to Florida, transporting both passengers and personal vehicles.
